Jean's Voice : satisfy woman's desire

When I look through the advertisement,I focusing on the desires of woman nowadays.I look at what woman wants and needs,What they want to be and where they want to live.Woman nowadays interested in the beauty of everything, they judge on its appearance and not really concern about the function of it.They also really care about their appearance and how people will think about them and they are now very materialism, they judge each other by the stuff that they have and the place that they live,When one woman own something the other have to have it too,it kind of a trend that if you do not have it you cannot be in the same society with the other woman so for my distorted Neufert I focusing on adding stuff to satisfied woman’s desires,to make it a place that woman happy to live in and not ashamed about their place,It must be the place the makes the society accept the woman. The place also focusing on the decoration because woman really look at it appearance. It also suits for woman in many kind of habit and lifestyle. My distorted Neufert is design especially to satisfied what woman’s want and need nowadays.

Nat's Voice : Immersion

Through research from the first project about advertisements on technology in magazines and how are they advertise and represents in actual spaces, the research shows that products are represented so that the user can experience it in many ways differently from reality, for example an advert of canon presenting a camera with a picture taken by the camera itself. So it is creating a moment where the user captures an actual space into a digital format where the user can relive them again whenever they want without having to be present at the actual space to experience those sensations again. As well as research gathered from actual spaces that the products are shown, the user could experience it in a simulated space with elements broken down into three portions, which is how the space makes the user feel at home, second part is feel at home but doesn't fit in a real space and lastly is nothing fit at all. In conclusion from the previous research gathered I try to eliminate the need for physical objects needed in the space and experience more in a virtual form instead. In Distorted Neufert's work, the physical immersion in a virtual room was ranged from minimal to maximum experience of virtual technology. Beginning with a room containing with small amount of gadgets then gradually increases with more space of the room. As the gadgets and space of the room is increased the level of immersion also increases, immersing the user with more virtual experience. Eliminating the need for physical objects and more virtual experience instead.

Jom's Voice: Process

From my explorations in project 1 we know that nowadays people are searching for convenience, luxury and things that are reliable and can be trusted like traditions. For instance, Thai food that comes in tin can offers convenience but are also still very reliable in terms of delivering the "Thai" quality. From the concept of trust (traidition), convenience and luxury, in project 2 I explored into the difference between traditional Thai house and condominium and how such quality could be combined. For my case study I am looking into the Master's work of how classical items and used and adapted in the 18th century house. The important elements such as light and space and the interior will also be the focus of my exploration.

Project1 : Finding Happiness

Kamsai's Voice: Supplementary and Artificial

The emerging pattern throughout the research on magazine advertisements is the use of love to sell products, which mainly are supplementary food and medicine. According to the research, many advertisements persuade people to buy their products by using family, such as a mother buying vitamins to be healthy in order to take care of her daughter. So a person needs to consume so many unnecessary products to have a happy and good life. Instead of doing exercise, people rely on these extra helpers to keep themselves healthy. From the site analysis at Paragon Department Store, the research on plan, elevation, and circulation helps explain the relationship between furniture and customers. For example, the kid’s products area uses furniture below eye level of an adult, so it will be suitable for the kids to view the products. Moreover, people tend to find the shortest way to walk through a space, such as by walking through the shelves instead of taking the main pathway to the escalator. The plan of some parts in Paragon is integrated in the final product as a base to build boxes with elevation of the furniture in the department store. The boxes are filled with various kinds of medicines and supplementary food. It shows how people rely too much on these medicine to make themselves happy and healthy which is considered as a shortcut.

The distorted Neufert is about how people misused furniture in everyday life. People tend to find the easiest way to solve a problem. They grab the most convenient items around them to make themselves more comfortable and use them in a different way. Most of the time, misused furniture enhances comfort of users. There are many positions that a user can use the furniture, each one has its main purpose. Many kinds of furniture, however, are often misused to do other tasks that were not originally designed for. For example, reaching for things by stepping on a drawer, using a computer on the bed, laying down in a relaxed position by using table to rest feet, or placing objects on unused furniture such as towel on a wheel chair.

This is related to the previous project in a way that people misused supplementary products the same way they misused furniture. People refuse to consume healthy food, but they decide to take vitamins to get all the nutrients, which is an alternative way to stay healthy. The same idea applies when people are too lazy to find a leg rest, and they decide to use the table instead. It is the easiest way out to make them comfortable, while sometimes it is not the most preferred solution.

Archive of Desires - Stereotypical, Imported, Guaranteed

Khim's voice: Thai Customization

Regarding Project 1, I focused on the stereotypes of Thai advertisements and how they emphasize on the product being "imported" and "standard"; products are usually guaranteed by famous institutes via certificates or signatures from models to indicate high success rate and satisfaction of using the products, while, on the other hand, the ones guaranteeing the products may not be involved in the usage of the product at all. For example, the certificates may not be related to the category of the product, and the models may not be using the product themselves in contradiction to what they advertised for.

This implies that, while guarantees are supposed to reassure people from getting tricked into buying inefficient products, Thai companies actually take advantage of the guarantees themselves and use it to trick the local people instead.

The fixation of specifically buying imported products shows how Thai people are obsessed with the image they give to outsiders or guests, and by trying to reach that particular image and standard, they bought products which guaranteed them to do so. This is similar to how Thai people arrange their rooms to be at a standard level, to show others that they too are "standardized".

In relation to Project 1, Project 2 lays out the possibilities of customizing the Neufert “standard” rooms into a Thai standard one where the room is on display to guests and outsiders, and the real Thai usage arrangement where the rooms are customized for personal usage. This can be categorized further into “Functional Aggregation” where the dining room and living room are merged in usage, “Functional Pretension” where there are two living rooms, one for attending guests and the other for personal use, “Functional Augmentation” of the bedroom where the users no longer search for entertainment within the living room since a personal computer is installed within the room, including the reduction in the frequency of entering the kitchen area due to an installation of a compact refrigerator, and “Functional Adaptation” where the implementation of objects adjusts the surrounding factors to fit the installation of additional components such as how a curtain is placed to block the sunlight reflecting on the screen of a personal computer. The bedroom is no longer used only at night but during day time as well, since artificial light has replaced the usage of sunlight.

These are the Thai customization of standard rooms.

Distorted Neufert - Unnecessary Ornamentation

Penpen's voice - Unnecessary Decoration

The first project is to create a photomontage which is the combinations of the advertisement and the Paragon analysis. The advertisement that I choose is basically base on the difference of product surroundings which mostly use for attracting different groups of people. Also for the Paragon analysis, I mainly focus on the decoration of each type products. For example household, luxury, technology and spa products. All these types has its own independent way of displaying. The photomontage combines the research of the Paragon and advertisement together which is about the decorations and the surroundings. It is the factor of desires in nowadays life.

The decorations have nothing in common with the product and it quite unnecessary. Such as the big bunch of flowers are putting aside a group of plates, cup and bowl. The only reason is to create the scene of the house and to be an example of how today's house should be.

Relating to the Neufert distortion project, I concentrate on the unnecessary stuff which is not relevant to living, but because the effect of the advertisement, most people have it in their house even it decrease the living space and furnitures. So the project came out as a chart of the salary and the function of the room which shows room arrangement varies via salary.

Credit's Voice : Nostalgia

Based on the research of advertisement in magazines and local consumers location, my first project is mainly about learning how products are being sold these days. Most of advertisement of products sell their products through consumers memories. They're trying to use feeling of happiness that consumers got back in the old times, so producers are trying to sell their product not directly by telling consumers what's good about their product but they intentionally got to consumers by pure nostalgia. So my photomontage express how consumers nowadays want to buy product not just because of their technology or geniuses but also they purchase product because of nostalgia where it brings back their memories.

My photomontage consists of 4 different parts So in this photomontage each living room shows a lifestyle in each time and to make it clearer i arrage it from very sharp and high defenition picture (Futuristic living room with nobody) to 3d pixel art which is a living room of today where we normally sits alone and play games or watch television. Then to the next room every furniture in the room are attatch to the wall and even more pixelated. I tried to make it look like an 8bit game to make it feels like we're really going back through time, and in this room there are more people talking to each and if you look closely to the furniture on the walls you can see that there are no electronics device at all, and the last living room is really the beginning of human being, so i use caveman walking around campfire with no walls around them. I wanted to make a difference from the last 8bit living room so i decide to put caveman and campfire flat to the ground like hyrogrifics in the past.

So in Neufert distortion project i tried to relate the subject of using living room as main attraction and place for interactions of people in home, so in page one i use old thai style home as a starting point of going through timeline. So each living room from each time have different purpose and also different arrangement of furniture and the spaces. In page one I tried to make relations between how different living rooms bring back users good memories. From this i then also include page two which consists of different living rooms from different time and in different region to make comparison of how each one creates different effects to people and changes how people interact with each other

Sarar's Voice: Process

First project is making a photomontage base on research of advertisement and site at paragon. What I see from the research on advertisement is the beauty as element and detail, family is love and activities together, sex is center; combination of two bodies and deep meaning. Also from the site analysis is about proportional by taking picture of every floor on the eyes level to see over landscape but not seeing any detail.

Base on those research I found the interesting point of Photomontage. The first layer will be a cover as beauty; every element is the symbol of how to become beauty, which have to add so many things. When open to second layer, will be a place of living room to represent family.  The picture hanging on the wall telling stories, fireplace in the middle as center of warmness. In the middle of the paper will be an abstract movement of sex, which hard to describe but give the deep though feeling. The layout base on the perspective and proportional of element.

The relationship of this photomontage to architecture would we the perspective of exterior and interior. What we really see from outside doesn’t mean inside is the same.

The relationship to the Neufert’s project is focus on beauty, family and sex. Beauty is something as a cover, which we see from outside. Family is another step that deep down when we know people into another step, the room that would descript this the best is living room because when people come to your place; living room is the first place to get in. Sex is like a private condition, it’s a conflict room that not everyone in the family knows stories, so bedroom is the conflict room. Not everyone get into this room if they don’t know that person well enough. This bring to the topic of bedroom is conflict room. The situation of fighting moment but not everyone have the same reaction. So I start by list reaction of people in my family, friends and boyfriend when we start fighting. In this step can put people in 5 groups, loud, ignore, emotional, walking away and fighting with yourself. So there’re bedroom in fighting situation that explain by the plan and circulation of user.
